Indian Wars of the Northwest: A California Sketch

Title
Indian Wars of the Northwest: A California Sketch
Description
On January 5, 1855, miners at Orleans Bar established a policy to disarm the native peoples along the Klamath River. Upon the deadline of January 19th, a company of miners marched to the Red Cap rancheria and demanded their surrender. They were met with resistance and two miners were killed in the violence that ensued, at which point the miners retreated back to Orleans and sent a messenger to inform Col. Buchanan at Fort Humboldt of the events that transpired. It is worth noting that this resource was written from the perspective of a white man, and the information that is presented may very well be one-sided.
