Dublin Core

Title

The Mammoth Smelter at Kennett, Ca

Description

The former town of Kennett was abandoned in 1943, as Shasta Lake was filled after construction of Shasta Dam. American miners built the town on Wintu lands in the 1850's. This Smelter was one of many used throughout Wintu lands. These are important in many ways one being that these machines allowed for a more industrial style of mining cause a rise in white population and the creation of mining town around such places. Thus increasing contact between the Wintu and the invading settlers.
